FireRedtale - Chapter 1 (That's Not a Sunflora)
With a pained groan, Red slowly returned to consciousness. His entire body ached, and his head in particular was pounding violently. His nose was met with the overpowering aroma of flowers. Wearily, the trainer lifted his head and saw that he was, in fact, resting in a patch of golden flowers. The sticky seeds were all over his clothing as he sat up, but he didn't pay them any mind. The headache started to pass, and the boy glanced around, confused. There were walls of rock on all sides, but as he tilted his head back, he could see light trickling down from a hole in the ceiling high above.
Is that where I fell? How’d I even survive that? he wondered in astonishment.
Red found his hat lying in the flowerbed beside him and placed it on his head again. He couldn't have possibly fallen so far and lived. And there was too much light streaming down from above for it to be the same pit he’d stumbled into. After all, there hadn't been any light in the cave after…

Determined at the End
Act V (Part 2 of 2)
Mid-sentence, Chara’s body was rocked with a powerful convulsion that caused them to gasp in pain. The joy instantly vanished from their eyes.

“Chara!” Frisk and Flowey screamed.

Sans’s eyes went dark with horror, and panic invaded his mind. This couldn’t be happening. Everything was going so well. Time was reset and frozen, waiting to move forward once they crossed over. Why would anything go wrong now, of all times?

Frisk trembled with fear. “Chara...what’s happening?”

Chara coughed and coughed, and their hands shook. A trail of black fluid escaped their lips. “H-help…” they rasped.

Sans fired up his magic and extended its perceptive field towards Chara. The child’s HP was steadily dropping, and something new was imposing itself within them. He tried gripping what remained of Chara’s determination like he would grab a soul, but the

Act V (Part 1 of 2)

A tingling sensation enveloped Sans’s entire body, and his vision grew blurry. Having lost so much determination, his bones felt much achier than before. He was so weary, he almost wanted to curl up and take a nap, then and there. Natural healing magic closed up the openings between his joints, plugging up the rest of his determination. Sans blinked several times to refocus his vision. When he looked down at his lap again, every negative emotion which had plagued him instantly melted away.

The white haze around Frisk’s head dissipated, and the child was stirring.

“No way…” Flowey whispered in disbelief.

An impossibly broad smile now occupied Sans’s face. He felt happier than a baby bones on Christmas morning. “Frisk!” he exclaimed in sheer bliss, squeezing them tightly against his chest. “Oh my god, you’re back!”

He heard a gasp from Frisk.

Ta-da! More Pokémon fanart! :D

This was actually drawn to thank the anonymous deviant who gifted me with a month of Core membership. This person wanted a drawing of some of their favorite
Pokémon (Pikachu, Charmander, and Bulbasaur).

I guess that means Squirtle is in the
Pokéball! ;)

There are a few aspects I like about this piece, but some which I just can't understand.

Let's start with the positives. The anatomy is really good on this character. The little details like fringes on fur on the shoulders and the stern expression on his face are very nicely done. The pants and sword are also well-drawn.

But the color scheme...forgive me, but I really don't like it. The combination of neon green and dark blue is unnatural, and the fact that those are the only two colors on every aspect of the piece (aside from the white background) makes it look very strange as a whole. The faded part of his lower pants (with the transition from blue to green) also looks a bit odd, as the smudged look is only used there and nowhere else on the pants. Also, the swirling emblem on his belt is slightly different than the one on the hilt of his sword. Whether or not that was intentional, I don't know.

I can tell you have a lot of potential with this character, but I would advise that you cut back on the neon green and add some different colors that work better with blue. Or maybe do the opposite, and cut back on blue for other shades of green. Maybe throw some neutral colors in there.

The twelve-year-old went into a frenzy. He grabbed his bag and shoved the Silph Scope, which had miraculously survived the fall and landed a short distance away, into it. Pikachu was still missing. The boy stood up and began calling the Pokémon by name.

He walked down the narrow path away from the flowers, still receiving no answer. When he reached a purple, chiseled archway, Red paused for a moment, perplexed. He hadn't expected to see any man-made structures down here. Perhaps these were the ruins of an ancient civilization, forgotten for centuries beneath the mountain.

But there would be plenty of time to think about this later. Refocusing his concerns on his missing Pokémon, Red hurried through the archway and found himself in a spacious cavern with a second archway on the other side. Not seeing any sign of Pikachu, he hastened his walking.

“Howdy!” someone shouted at him when he was halfway across the room.

Red stopped and recoiled in surprise, whirling around for the source of the shrill voice.

“Um...down here.”

The boy stared at his feet. A creature that resembled a frail, deformed Sunflora was gazing up at him in a small patch of grass.

“I'm Flowey! Flowey the Flower!”

It was talking. The weird Sunflora was talking to him. Red was stupefied as he reached into his pocket and retrieved his Pokédex, letting it scan the lifeform.

“No data available. Species unknown,” the device announced uselessly.

Red raised an eyebrow as he put the Pokédex away. This flower creature was likely a new species entirely if the device hadn’t identified it as a Sunflora (or subspecies thereof).

Red was tempted to catch it, but he refrained from doing so. For all he knew, it could be a baby that still needed its mother. Or perhaps it was an adult with offspring of its own. Red never separated parent Pokémon from their children, even for the sake of adding data to his Pokédex. That would just be cruel.

“Huh,” Flowey began awkwardly, staring at Red’s contemplative face. “You're a quiet one, aren’tcha?”

Red chuckled and looked away in embarrassment. “Oh! Sorry, little guy. I’ve just...never seen anything like you before.”

Flowey smirked proudly at this, apparently taking the remark as a compliment. “Well, I am one of a kind.”

Remembering why he was down here in the first place, Red spoke up more seriously this time. “Say...Flowey, was it? Can you help me? I'm looking for my lost Pikachu.”

Flowey titled his head incredulously and laughed. “Peek at you? Oh gosh, I would never do that to my friend!”

Red blinked. “That’s not-”

“But you know,” Flowey interrupted, “since you're new, someone should really show you how things work down here! The Underground is nothing like the world above, you see. Lucky for you, your new pal Flowey is here to help!”

A foreign force seemed to tug on Red’s body from all directions. The boy felt oddly weightless for a moment, and there was a brief pressure in his chest just before a heart-shaped object emerged from within it. It shone with red luminescence as it bobbed slightly in midair in front of him.

Red stared at the ethereal heart in disbelief. Before he could ask what it was, Flowey dived into an explanation.

“That heart is your soul! The very culmination of your being!” the golden flower stated informatively.

The trainer was stunned as he reached out and experimentally touched the red heart, finding that it was pleasantly warm and solid. But Flowey’s answer only raised more questions. Red knew that a few species of Pokémon could see and detect auras, but the power to extract a person’s soul was entirely new to him. Maybe this ability was unique to Flowey.

“Your soul starts off really weak,” Flowey went on, “but you can make it strong if you gain a lot of LV!”

Red’s attention snapped from his soul to the strange flower as he heard these words. “LV? As in Level...?”

“No, silly! LV stands for LOVE!” Flowey answered joyfully. “You want some?”

As much as Red was fascinated by this peculiar flower Pokémon, he felt the need to continue searching for his missing Pikachu. “Uh, no thanks,” Red politely declined. The red soul remained with him as he started to walk away. “I gotta keep looking for-”

Flowey suddenly reappeared in front of Red, once again standing in his way. “Oh, come on! Let’s have some fun...uh…what’s your name?”

The boy, growing a little frustrated, replied, “Red.”

“Listen, Red,” Flowey began in a deadpan tone. “You’re new here, and I know for a fact that you’re not prepared for what’s beyond that door.” He gestured with a leaf to the next purple archway. “Are you really going to turn me down?”

Red smiled reassuringly at the flower. Even without Pikachu, he had five perfectly healthy, well-trained Pokémon with him. If any wild beasts wanted a piece of him, they wouldn’t stand a chance as long as he had his friends by his side. “I’m really sorry, but I have to go. Maybe after I find my Pikachu, I’ll come back later, okay?” He stepped around the persistent flower and headed towards the archway again.

Suddenly, Red felt vines wrap around his ankles, causing him to fall face-first onto the cold, stone floor. The smell of iron filled his nostrils as Red’s nose began to bleed. The vines pulled upwards on his, dangling Red upside down. The boy frantically tried to free himself, and when he looked back at Flowey, a knot of dread formed in his stomach.

Flowey’s cheery expression had become a sadistic, fanged sneer. “You idiot!” he mocked. “You shouldn’t turn your back on anyone down here. Especially me!”

Red, enraged by the flower’s betrayal, decided it was time to teach him a lesson. Reaching to his belt, he plucked one of the Pokéballs and prepared to send out his Charizard.

Flowey, assuming it was a bomb or grenade of some kind, instantly ensnared Red’s arm and seized the ball, as well as the others still clipped to Red’s belt. “And what have we got here?” the flower taunted, waving the Pokéballs like trophies in his vines.

Red’s last bit of composure slipped away, and the blood was beginning to rush to his head. “No!” he hollered, fighting against Flowey’s tight grip, but to no avail. “Let them go, you evil flower!”

Flowey was barely affected by the ferocity in Red’s voice, instead levelling a malicious glare at the boy. “You want these back?” he asked rhetorically. “Too bad, brat! I'll be keeping these as souvenirs to remember you by.”

A ring of spinning, white pellets then appeared around Red, who trembled in fright.

And I think I’ll keep your soul, too!

The bullets closed in Red, who squeezed his eyes shut and screamed at the top of his lungs. He just wanted to wake up from this nightmare. He wished he hadn’t tempted the mountain. Red tensed his body as he braced himself for the end.

Just as the bullets almost struck him, Red heard a familiar cry and the crackling of electricity.

“Pi! Ka! Chu!” A bolt of lightning ripped through the air and electrocuted Flowey, who shrieked in agony. Not caring to stick around and see who or what had attacked him, the flower released Red and fled underground with the five Pokéballs.

Red dropped to the ground, and the red soul floated back into his chest. The boy was completely distressed. That freak had kidnapped his friends and run off to Mew-knew-where with them. How was he possibly going to find them now? It was suddenly incredibly daunting to be trapped down here with only one of his Pokémon.

Pikachu scurried up to his trainer with a concerned expression on his face. “Pika?”

Red blinked back his unshed tears and quickly embraced his partner Pokémon. He thought again of the demented flower, and his dismay slowly transformed into determination. This fight wasn’t over yet. With his trusty Pikachu by his side, he firmly believed he could rescue the others. It was only a matter of time.

The boy released Pikachu from his tight grip. “Hey buddy,” Red said gently. “Thanks for saving me.”

Pikachu noticed his trainer’s morose expression and flicked his ears curiously. He then closed one eye while he stuck his tongue out, making a silly face to cheer the boy up a little.

Red chuckled at this, but cleared his throat and said, very seriously, “We don’t have a moment to lose, Pikachu. That evil flower just kidnapped the others.”

Pikachu’s face warped into an expression of unbridled rage. “Chu…” he growled darkly, clenching one paw into a fist before pounding it into his other, open paw.

“That’s the idea,” Red encouraged with a smirk as he adjusted his hat.

Suddenly, the sound of footsteps nearby caught the trainer and Pokémon’s attention. Red’s jaw dropped when he spotted the newcomer.

A tall, white furred creature wearing a purple and white robe was staring directly at him from the second archway. Shock and worry were clearly written on its face. Though it looked unlike any Pokémon that Red had ever seen, its horns were much like that of a Miltank and its motherly demeanor reminded Red of a Kangaskhan. “Little one, are you alright?” the creature asked in a gentle, feminine voice as it started to approach him. “I heard screaming and-”

Pikachu hopped off Red’s lap and crouched threateningly towards the creature, who cowered a bit from the aggressive display. Sparks danced along Pikachu’s little body, but Red quickly scrambled to his feet and picked up the angered rodent.

“Hey, hey. It’s okay. I don’t think she’s gonna hurt us.” Red glanced up apologetically at the creature. “Sorry about my Pikachu. He’s very suspicious of strangers.”

“Chu!” the Pokémon retorted.

“I...see…” the creature began uncertainly. “Well, I’m sorry to have made such a poor first impression on your friend.”

The yellow Pokémon turned his head away indignantly, refusing to look at the robed individual.

Red rolled his eyes. “He’ll get over it. But, uh, who are you, ma’am?”

She smiled kindly and gestured to herself. “I am Toriel, caretaker of the Ruins. And who might you be, little one?”

Red lifted the disgruntled Pikachu onto his shoulder. “My name’s Red, Champion of the Kanto Region Pokémon League. It’s nice to meet you.”

Legends say that those who climb the mountain never return.

Mount Silver was infamous for its icy peaks, steep cliffs, and vicious wildlife. Not only was it simply too treacherous to traverse on foot, but the frigid gales which blew around its peak could ground even the mightiest flying Pokémon. Any human being with a lick of common sense knew not to test the mountain, so the Pokémon League had banned most civilians from the area.

For the first time in several years, however, an exception was made in private for a very famous Pokémon Trainer.

As the twelve-year-old boy exited the rarely used Pokémon Center and gazed up at the towering landmark, he considered the task he was about to undertake. Many hikers and intrepid explorers had vanished over the years doing exactly what he was about to do. But he brushed his worries aside. He was already here, and he didn’t want to lose his nerve now. He was here to complete his Pokédex, and he wouldn’t walk away until he’d gotten the data he needed. Rumor had it that, somewhere on Mount Silver, there was a legendary Pokémon by the name of Moltres. All he had to do was stay alive long enough to find it and, hopefully, capture it.

The sliding glass doors behind him automatically opened and shut as his Pikachu scurried up to stand next to him. “Pi? Pikachu?” the little yellow rodent squeaked.

The boy smiled at his companion. He couldn’t understand his little friend’s language, but they shared a bond so strong that the boy knew instinctively what Pikachu was asking. “Nah, I’m not nervous.” He glanced up at the mountain again, taking in the sight of the pastel hues of dawn against its stark silhouette. “Just excited.”

Pikachu climbed onto the boy’s shoulder and nuzzled him affectionately, letting loose a few tiny jolts of static electricity.

Pokémon Trainer Red took a deep breath and set off towards the base of Mount Silver.

***

The first leg of the journey took Red at least halfway up the mountain. The wild Pokémon were indeed strong, but his team was stronger, and quite seasoned as a unified fighting force. It almost disappointed Red how easily his team fought the wildlife off. He’d been expecting more of a challenge.

Unfortunately, the weather was becoming problematic, especially now that the wind and snowfall had picked up. Red was growing drowsy from the freezing temperatures, despite the warm winter clothing he wore. His face was numbing from the cold, and the backpack seemed to weigh more the higher he climbed. He could feel Pikachu shivering inside his jacket, where Red was carrying him like a Kangaskhan to keep him warm. Red would have returned Pikachu to his Pokéball, but the possibility of an ambush from an Ursaring or Onix meant that he needed at least one of his friends at the ready to defend him at all times.

Red peered through the worsening snowstorm in search of somewhere to take shelter. At last, he spotted the mouth of a small cave several yards away and made a mad dash for it, ducking inside. Breathing heavily, the Pokémon Trainer sat down inside the cavern and unzipped his jacket. His frozen Pokémon crawled out as Red quickly opened his bag. “Let’s see here…” he mumbled to himself, rummaging through his supplies.

The shivering Pikachu waited patiently until Red retrieved an Ice Heal. “Here you go,” Red said warmly as he sprayed the liquid on Pikachu’s face.

The yellow Pokémon sneezed, but seemed visibly healthier as the medicine worked its magic and thawed the clumps of ice in his fur. “Pika! Pika!” he cried in irritation.

Red frowned slightly. “Sorry about the sting, buddy. Can't really do anything about that.”

After the bottle was emptied, Pikachu scurried a little distance away and pointed into the depths of the cavern. “Pi! Pikachu!”

Red placed the empty container back in his bag, not wanting to leave any litter on the mountain. “Yeah, I guess we better start looking for that Moltres,” he agreed, before rising to his feet and following his starter deeper inside the mountain.

They had only begun walking a few minutes when Pikachu suddenly stopped in his tracks. The Pokémon stood perfectly still, sniffing the air intently. Then he stared at a single fixed point a few feet in front of them.

Red followed Pikachu’s line of sight, but couldn’t see anything unusual. Thinking that Pikachu had sniffed out an invisible Pokémon, Red took out his Silph Scope, turned it on, and placed it on his head.

Now, Red could clearly distinguish the faint outline of a human child in a green and yellow shirt.

The ghost simply stood there, watching the boy and his Pokémon with childlike curiosity.

Red grew nervous. Could this be the ghost of a child who had died here? Or perhaps it was a Ghost type Pokémon playing a prank on him. Either way, he had to approach the situation carefully. “Hey there,” he greeted hesitantly, trying not to anger the spirit.

Upon realizing that the boy could clearly see them, the ghost child smiled widely, as if they had been surprised with a birthday party. They silently waved their hand in a beckoning motion before returning to the shadows.

One moment later, Pikachu dashed after the phantom.

“Wait! Pikachu, come back!” Red called desperately. He tore off the Silph Scope and ran after the little yellow rodent. The cave floor was uneven and rocky, and Red did his best not to stumble and fall. Pikachu usually never ran off on his own. The ghost must have lured him away with some hypnotic trick. “Pikachu!” he shouted again, straining to hear any response through his own voice's echoes.

After a few seconds of silence, a sharp cry rang throughout the cave before it abruptly ended.

Now panicked, Red sprinted faster towards the source of the sound. His mind was buzzing with paranoia. Why had he thought coming to this Mew-forsaken mountain was a good idea? Now Pikachu was probably hurt or trapped or even-

Red tripped in the darkness and tumbled headfirst into a vast pit. He hadn't noticed it was even there until it was too late.

The Kanto League Champion screamed in terror as he plummeted into the abyss and his world went black.
FireRedtale - Prologue (The Fallen Child)
My first Crossover fanfiction! I am a dummy!  I'm really excited to start this project! FireRed was a huge part of my childhood, and now I get to revive my nostalgia for it in a brand new story! PKMN Icon Trainer Red - FRLG Pikachu Piff Plz Chara icon

So...the main character is supposed to be the male playable character from FireRed, but his team is based on the one from Gold and Silver when you battle him at the end of the game. (This means he has Pikachu, Blastoise, Venusaur, Charizard, Snorlax, and Espeon.)

(I also won't be making any references to Red from the manga because I never read the manga.)

Just a heads-up, this story does not have a concrete schedule as of yet. I'll write as the inspiration comes to me, and I don't want to be pressured with self-imposed deadlines. This is part of the reason why the chapters will be shorter than the chapters from my first fanfiction, Determined at the End. (Which can be red here: magnafae.deviantart.com/art/De…)

Hopefully, writing shorter chapters will allow me to relax and post more often.

But for now...enjoy the first part of what is going to be the backbone of my first Undertale AU: FireRedtale! Pikachu want it
